Bacardi 151 is one of the most legendary rums ever produced! So legendary, it had to be discontinued in 2016. You read that right. Discontinued. And also because of the staggering 151 proof (75.5% ABV) - it's a safety issue, really. The high flammability, quite honestly. So, why is it still sought after by many rum aficionados?
Bacardi 151 Rum is unmistakably intense. Sharp ethanol notes dominate, but they are softened by hints of vanilla, charred oak, and molasses. On the palate, you get a fiery rush that quickly gives way to flavors of burnt sugar, caramel, and a whisper of tropical fruit. The oak aging lends a smoky undertone, balancing the sweetness with a dry, woody finish. The taste experience is one of extremes - and that's what makes it unforgettable. A bottle best left in the hands of those worthy.
Bacardi is recipient of many awards, but the 151 hasn't quite racked up those accolades. Think of it as infamous, a cult classic in its own right. It's very niche since it's overproofed, but check online and you'll see many fans still itching to get a bottle themselves.
Bacardi 151 was for thrill-seekers, bartenders, and cocktail enthusiasts who wanted intensity. Gift a bottle if you wish, but bottles are ideally kept as many collectors are still looking for whatever remaining available bottles are out there.
