Atlanta rarely bows to Kentucky traditions. ASW Distillery completely upended the standard grain playbook by forging Fiddler Small Batch Wheated Straight Bourbon. They've utilized a massive forty percent wheat mashbill, intentionally sacrificing the jagged peppery bite of rye for an insanely lush, pastry-forward sweetness. It drinks with effortless, liquid grace. You aren't just sipping a standard dram; you're engaging a meticulously crafted Southern rebellion prioritizing a velvety smooth viscosity over raw, abrasive heat.
Maturation permanently redefines this grain architecture. Sweltering Georgia summers relentlessly push the distillate deep into the charred American white oak staves, violently extracting deeply resinous vanilla and caramelized wood sugars. I absolutely cherish this defiant profile. Bottling at an approachable ninety proof effortlessly preserves the delicate orchard fruit esters without ever scorching your eager palate. This golden liquid coats your tongue beautifully.
Mainstream wheated bourbons frequently collapse into a painfully monotonous, one-dimensional sugar bomb. This robust Atlanta expression aggressively wrestles with seasoned wood tannins to forge an impeccably balanced, highly idiosyncratic tension instead. Finding a genuinely exceptional craft wheater requires immense dedication. You simply must taste the truth. Missing out on this magnificent Southern giant feels like a devastating mistake for any serious whiskey collector who values genuine craft.
