The Original New Orleans Anise Liqueur
Herbsaint is the legendary anise-flavored liqueur that has been essential to New Orleans cocktail culture since the 1930s. Created by pharmacist J. Marion Legendre after experiencing pastis and absinthe in France during World War I, this authentic spirit carries forward a rich tradition of French-Creole mixology.
A Sazerac Essential
Herbsaint's distinctive anise flavor is the key ingredient in the official Sazerac cocktail recipe, New Orleans' signature drink. Its complex botanical profile—featuring star anise, fennel, and aromatic herbs—delivers the perfect balance of licorice sweetness and herbal complexity that defines classic NOLA cocktails.
Tasting Notes
- Aromatic anise and fennel on the nose
- Smooth, herbaceous palate with licorice and subtle spice
- Clean, refreshing finish with lingering botanical notes
Cocktail Versatility
Beyond the Sazerac, Herbsaint shines in a variety of classic and contemporary cocktails. Use it wherever absinthe is called for, or explore its potential in original creations. Its 750 mL bottle ensures you'll have plenty for experimenting with this essential New Orleans spirit.
